我多年的研究興趣包括移民、邊境研究、族群政治與東南亞華人研究,學術出版則專注在當代泰緬雲南移民的跨境遷移歷史與生計研究。研究的方法是立基於社會文化人類學的田野深耕,但同時也結合了歷史學研究與區域研究。二十多年來雲南移民的跨境網絡引領我進入泰國、緬甸、雲南、台灣、香港與廣州,讓我得以探究他們在遷移與定居過程中多元的面貌。
豐富的多點跨國田野素材與長程的歷史視角深化我對當代雲南移民的瞭解;他們的生命故事不僅呈現出個別主體的能動性,同時也照映出他們所共同經歷的歷史情境──糾結著複雜的冷戰局勢與錯綜的地方勢力。
