Svanholm Singers- A Performance x Discussion on Human Rights

★ Location:Brilliant Time Bookstore, # 1, Lane 135, ,Xingnan Road Section 1, Zhonghe District, New Taipei City, Taiwan

Svanholm Singers is a Swedish male voice chamber choir that in this year of 2017 raises awareness for human rights. This is to commemorate the fact that 70 years ago, the work first began toward what would become the United Nations’ Declaration of Human Rights. In collaboration with grass-root women’s rights community, Womens’ March Taiwan, Svanholm Singers is honored to present a special performance with a following discussion on human rights issues in Taiwan!

(Note: the first part of the event, the musical performance which is an excerpt from the larger tour program, will be performed by Svanholm Singers. As the choir is politically unaffiliated, in the following discussions, statements and opinions will be given from individual members of the choir.)

Despite the choir’s busy schedule attending the Taipei International Choral Festival, Svanholm Singers manages to realize this event. Svanholm Singers’ bass Adam Leckius said, “We have been working on this repertoire, based around the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, for about a year. All the singers are behind this project/repertoire. Human rights in general, and women’s rights in particular, both have a strong status in Sweden. Although we are politically unaffiliated, the choir does have a history of touching general political topics relevant to the times; for example last year, we did an “Earth Choir” project on climate and environmental awareness. I am personally excited to share more about human rights through music and discussion!”
